Sendeiro de San Xurxo - COTOBADE

Access:

Leaving Pontevedra along the N - 541 and about 18 kilometers take a detour in San Xurxo Sack to San Xurxo Carballeira .

Route description :

This route is mainly developed by ancient stone roads and rural roads. We find a particularly rich vegetation , consisting of riparian forests and some native deciduous forests. There are plenty of chestnut, oak , pine and birch , as well as areas of dense vegetation ( vines , ferns , mosses ... ) on the banks of the streams.

Also find abundant manors , granaries and stone crosses , as well as a variety of petroglyphs , which are rock carvings in the rock.

The church of San Xurxo Sack is famous by the thickness of its walls , which according to the locals are so wide that a Galician truck could roll over them . Also interesting are the Chapel of carballeira Fentáns and St. Xusto

During the tour we will pass eight mills, of which four are in San Xusto baths , two in San Xurxo , one in Cutián and at the end of a small branch of the route, before Ponte Nova.

Description of the route :

The route starts at the chapel of St. Xusto Carballeira , along a paved track until you see a sign that indicates the descent to the Baths of San Xusto .

From the baths, we take a path surrounded by dense vegetation , until the Roman bridge over the river Lérez .

After crossing the bridge we take a paved road towards Fentans . In reaching this village we take a path that climbs to the right. By this way we arrive at the shrine of Our Lady of lixo . Then we take the road off to our left, cross a road and continue along a wide track that will lead us to the petroglyph area .

We will meet first with the Laxe das ferraduras , to our left. Shortly later we will take a deviation to the right to reach the Capadoiro do Laxe and Laxe dos Cavalos . Back to continue on the same track and find the Laxe two Cervos . Then we follow the track road Fentans

After crossing Fentáns , crossing the Roman bridge again we take a paved road that rises to our right. Then we cross a paved track.

We follow the path and we have to cross a brook ( ' Si se puede !! **) , with a mill. Later , after passing a stone channel , we have to take a path that climbs to the left. So llegeremos to the village of San Xurxo Fontan and sacks . A little later we will pass next to the Pazo de Bermúdez de Castro.

Then we can only back up the road to get back to the Chapel of the Carballeira , the end of the route.

** Note: The regato of Cutián have to cross a ford without any bridge . Except in summer, it will have to remove their shoes and / or get to the thigh. It is the black point of the trail , I do not plan to do in any season. The trail leads from Cutián the stream, dug through meadows , it can be flooded with 10-15 cm of water or mud. The choice is surround by the PO- 231, and link a little later
